See their face.
Hear that familiar voice.

Some catch-ups deserve more than a message.

Click Video or Call and bring your people closer. Your one-to-one voice and video are encrypted between the two calling devices. Incoming calls ring in an ADL popup that stays while the call is waiting.

THE COMEBACK. WITH SOMETHING NEW.

That familiar hello.
Now end-to-end encrypted.

Encryption starts automatically after sign-in. Your messages and files are encrypted on your PC before upload, with keys shared to enrolled participant devices. No activation switches.

Automatic, from your first hello.

Normal chats need no security setup. Keys are remembered on first use; compare numbers or emoji for an optional independent identity check.

Photos and files, protected too.

Attachments are encrypted before upload. Their names and decryption details stay inside the protected message.

Your keys. Your recovery.

Save an encrypted key backup with a separate passphrase. A password reset cannot recover lost message keys.

The current version automatically prepares your device and new or older chats after normal sign-in. First-use trust relies on the authenticated ADL device directory; optional comparison adds independent assurance. Changed known keys are blocked. Earlier plaintext history, game moves, profiles and delivery metadata remain outside this protection. No independent security audit has been completed.

A friendly heads-up. ADL Messenger is currently an unsigned Windows beta. Read the release notes before installing. Use the installer for Windows contact links; the portable edition doesn’t register them. One-to-one calls target 720p video with requested echo cancellation and noise reduction. Quality, frame rate and latency depend on camera, microphone, computer and connection. Wider real-device testing continues.

Your people. All day long.

A familiar hello in six languages: English, French, Dutch, German, Italian and Spanish. Choose your language in setup or change it instantly in Settings.

Release notes & checksum +
  • Your people. All day long. Our new tagline welcomes you in the installer, with ADL still proudly made by Asia Design Lab.
  • Choose your language when the Windows installer starts. New installations use that choice on first launch.
  • Change language at any time under Tools → Messenger options → General → Language, including before signing in.
  • Menus, conversations, settings, account and encryption screens, calls, games and desktop alerts use the selected language without restarting Messenger.
  • Your messages, display names, custom friend lists, passwords and encryption identities stay unchanged when switching languages.
  • Language is a preference for this computer. Existing preferences survive upgrades; portable editions initially follow the Windows language when supported.
  • Offline translation catalogs make it possible to add more languages in future versions.

Unsigned Windows beta. Publisher signing remains paused. Encryption has not had an independent security audit.

v0.5.12

More room for your people.

Compact classic contact controls, account settings in the menu, and beautifully rounded promotional banners.

Release notes +
  • Add friend, contact search, Share my contact and Options now share one compact row, recovering about 55 pixels for the contact list.
  • Account & devices moves to Tools and the dedicated settings window. Your Encryption Active indicator remains beside your profile.
  • Full-width promotional artwork has smoothly curved corners and a slim sponsor/link strip. Active campaigns rotate automatically with a subtle change-only transition.
  • Reduced-motion preferences disable animation. Paused, expired or signed-out campaigns clear immediately, and native link validation still asks before opening a promoted website.
  • The website now features the active Admin-managed banners. Draft, paused, scheduled and expired campaigns are excluded.
  • Includes automatic encryption, private synced friend lists, clipboard images and existing update popups.

v0.5.10

Your people. A little closer together.

A compact contact list with coloured ADL status icons and private friend lists that sync between your computers.

Release notes +
  • Compact single-line contact rows use small ADL icons: green Available, red Busy, amber Away and grey Offline. Personal messages, listening status, unread badges and favorite stars remain visible.
  • Create private lists such as Family, Work and Gaming, rename them and move friends between them. Lists can remain empty while you organise your contacts.
  • List membership and collapsed sections sync across your signed-in computers. Search temporarily opens matching lists without changing saved collapse choices.
  • Deleting a list moves its friends back to Friends. It does not delete contacts, chats or friendships, and support conversations stay separate.
  • Favorite contacts keep their list membership and can be shown with the Favorites filter. Existing groups migrate without changing messages or encryption records.
  • Includes encrypted clipboard-image sharing, contextual promotional banners and the existing native update popup.

v0.5.9

Paste a picture. Discover something new.

Paste clipboard images straight into encrypted chats, with a preview before sending. A small labelled banner introduces other apps and offers from the ADL team.

Release notes +
  • Paste a screenshot or copied image into the message box with Ctrl+V, or use Conversation → Paste image from clipboard. Review the image and choose Send image or Cancel.
  • Pasted images are normalized to PNG and sent through the existing end-to-end encrypted attachment pipeline. Your unfinished text stays in the message box, and recipients see an inline image thumbnail.
  • Clipboard access happens only in response to an explicit paste. Local image previews expire after ten minutes and are cleared on cancellation, chat closure or sign-out. Images are limited to 10 MB and 32 megapixels.
  • The lower contact-list banner can show a clearly labelled promotion with an image, short message and website link. The destination is shown before opening, and the normal ADL banner returns when no current campaign is available.
  • Promotions are contextual and shared by everyone. Private chats, contacts and country are not used for ad targeting. No advertiser scripts or remote image trackers are loaded.
  • The separate private Admin update adds campaign previews, schedules, priorities, publish/pause/archive controls and aggregate view/click counts. Existing automatic encryption, support conversations and synchronized unread tracking remain available.

Unsigned Windows beta. Publisher signing remains paused. Encryption has not had an independent security audit.

v0.5.8

Support, with a proper goodbye.

Website support now has its own conversations, a Finish support action and a completed-chat archive. Read messages stay read across your devices.

Release notes +
  • Website support customers stay separate from friends and no longer increase your friend count or receive friendship permissions.
  • Finish support removes the conversation from the active list and keeps its encrypted history in Completed support. Finished conversations cannot receive new messages, files or calls until explicitly reopened.
  • Reopen support when needed, or send a normal friend request that the other person can accept. Blocking a customer is a separate action.
  • Read tracking now follows the server message sequence, including hidden encrypted control events. Focused chats clear their unread badges across devices, and stale refreshes cannot restore an old badge.
  • Earlier widget-created support conversations retain their room IDs, messages and encryption records when converted to support sessions. Genuine friendships remain separate.
  • Includes automatic encryption-worker recovery, the redesigned Windows installer and encrypted one-to-one voice/video calls.

Unsigned Windows beta. Publisher signing remains pending. Encryption has not had an independent security audit.

Device and chat encryption start automatically. Set your status, send a message or start a private video call. Device comparison is optional.

A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING.

Before you sign in.

Which languages does ADL Messenger support?+

English, French, Dutch, German, Italian and Spanish. The Windows installer asks for your language. Change it at any time in Tools → Messenger options → General → Language, without restarting or signing out. Your messages and contact names stay as they are. More languages are planned.

Is ADL Messenger an MSN Messenger alternative?+

Yes. ADL Messenger is an independent MSN Messenger alternative by Asia Design Lab, inspired by the Windows Live Messenger 2009 era. It uses ADL accounts and servers, our own branding and artwork. It doesn’t connect to Microsoft’s retired Messenger network or import old Microsoft contact lists.

Is it a website or a real Windows app?+

It’s a real Windows desktop app, with a contact list, separate conversation windows and a notification-area icon beside the clock. This website is where you download it and find releases.

Can I use the same account on my laptop and PC?+

Yes. Install the latest version on each computer and sign in with the same ID or verified email. Contacts and read status are shared. Encryption starts automatically on each PC for future messages. Use a separate encrypted key backup to restore earlier protected history. Account & devices lets you sign out other computers.

Can I use my old Messenger account?+

You’ll need a new ADL Messenger account. Choose your ID in the Windows app and verify your email. If you’ve already made an ADL account, keep using it; you don’t need to create another account when upgrading.

What happens to my messages and privacy?+

Connections to the ADL service use HTTPS and secure WebSockets. Version 0.4.4 automatically prepares device and conversation encryption after ordinary sign-in, including file attachments. Keys are remembered on first use through the authenticated device directory. Comparing numbers or emoji with your friend is an optional extra identity check. Earlier history, shared game moves and delivery metadata remain visible to the service. Keep a separate encrypted key backup; password reset cannot recover message keys. The encryption integration has not received an independent security audit. Your recovery email is private and isn’t included in your public contact card.

Can I make encrypted video and voice calls?+

Yes. Start a one-to-one internet call with an ADL contact. Voice and video media use WebRTC DTLS-SRTP encryption, and call setup travels inside encrypted messages. Enlarge the video, fill the window or go full screen. Video capture targets 720p at 30 fps; echo cancellation and noise reduction are requested. Actual clarity and delay depend on both computers, devices and networks. These are app-to-app calls, not calls to ordinary telephone numbers.

Does it support conference calls?+

Calls currently connect two people. Group text chat is available; group voice/video conferences are not in this release.

Will Messenger tell me when an update is ready?+

Yes. Messenger checks shortly after launch and every 15 minutes while running. A dedicated ADL update popup appears even when Messenger is in the tray. Download the update or choose Remind me tomorrow; an update banner stays available in Messenger. You choose when to install. Existing 0.4.1–0.4.2 clients receive their update dialog when Messenger is visible or reopened. Install the latest release once to get the new desktop popup.

Why is Windows showing a publisher warning?+

The current beta is unsigned, so Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning. Publisher signing remains on our launch checklist. If you don’t want to run an unsigned beta, wait for a signed release.
